From our on-going monitoring of the service there was no evidence that demonstrated serious risks or concerns. This inspection report is written in a shorter format because our overall rating of the service has not changed since our last inspection. We frame our offer around ‘home’ because we understand its importance for everyone. Housing-with-care developments run by housing associations and local authorities tend to be called ‘extra care’ or ‘independent living’ schemes, and explicitly seek to accommodate people who need daily help. Both ownership and rental options are commonly available, as well as alternative ways of paying for the services on offer – including part deferring payment until a property is sold.
Others also provide nursing, and will have a nurse on duty twenty-four hours a day. Staff demonstrated an understanding of their responsibilities in relation to the Mental Capacity Act . Where people lacked capacity, mental capacity assessments were completed and best interest decisions made in line with the MCA.

St. Vincent’s Residential Home is a care home specialising in the care of elderly people, located in Bexhill-on-Sea. The home is situated in a central location, close to all local amenities. The home had been converted and expanded from a former Victorian vicarage that provides an established homely environment. They pride themselves on offering person centred care in a homely environment. In this report the name of a Registered Manager Mrs Gillian Gikes appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection.

Keeping active, even for those who are perhaps less mobile than they once were, is crucial, so our Activity Coordinator plans stimulating activities for all.
At other times we offer an answer phone service so please leave a message and we'll call you back. As part of a balanced healthcare team, your own GP, community nurse, physiotherapist, chiropodist, dentist, optician and hair dresser make regular visits. The provider employed a designated activities coordinator; people were supported to follow their interests and take part in social activities, which were of an interest to them. People said staff treated them with dignity and respect in a caring and compassionate way. Visitors praised the welcoming atmosphere and the support they received from staff, particularly when end of life care was being provided for their relative. People visiting, living and working at the home gave us positive feedback about the staff, management team and the new provider.

About quality of care
Those run by private operators more often focus on lifestyle, with help and care services discretely available to buy if or when required. – there are some services which we can’t rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon. We have therefore encouraged every provider to open their ‘online windows and doors’ to help you make an informed choice. We think it’s important you have detailed, comprehensive information so that you can decide which care providers to shortlist.
Care plans were person centred and focused on promoting people's independence. We saw that the service had appropriate systems in place to ensure people were protected from the risk of infection. We saw that staff knew people and people's individual needs well and that appropriate recruitment and selection processes were in place. We found that the service had appropriate quality assurance processes in place to gather information about the quality and safety of the service. We pride ourselves on our dedicated team of carers and support staff, many of whom have been with us for over ten years.
